About · Since 2012

A chambers built on the paperwork.

A chambers of advocates practising in Mumbai since 2012. Most of our work is the paper that holds a family's home together: society disputes, redevelopment agreements, sale and gift deeds, wills, probate. When those papers end up in court, we take them there too.

01 — Why we exist

Most legal problems are paper problems first.

A flat that cannot be sold because a release deed was never registered. A society that cannot redevelop because the builder never conveyed the land. A family that cannot move a bank account because nobody knew probate was needed. None of these began in a courtroom. All of them could have ended in one.

Quillstone Chambers was set up to do that paperwork properly — and, when it does end up in court, to argue it from a file that was built correctly at the start. Our practice grew from housing societies and property documentation into the matters that follow them: succession, redevelopment disputes, cheque bounce, family and criminal cases.

We are a chambers, not a call centre. Every matter has a named advocate who reads every page, and every client gets the next step in writing.

02 — How we work

What you can hold us to.

  1. 01

    Read everything first

We read the whole file — the old agreements, the society minutes, the notices — before giving an opinion. Most bad advice comes from reading half of it.

  2. 02

    Fees in writing

After the first review you get the scope and the fee in writing, stage by stage. Government stamp duty and court fees are shown separately, at actuals.

  3. 03

    Plain language

You will understand what we file in your name. We explain in English, Marathi, Hindi or Gujarati, and we put the next step in writing after every hearing.

  4. 04

    Settle where it makes sense

A society dispute that ends in a signed settlement is often a better result than a decree three years later. We will tell you when we think so.
